RYAN SCHOOL FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT

Fine Arts Philosophy Statement

STUDIO WORK

Students engaged in learning in the Fine and Performing Arts, throughout their Tewksbury Public School education, should acquire skills that move them toward the development of aesthetic sensitivity and personal creativity. Instruction should provide students not only with the ability to communicate visually, but also with a cultural understanding of themselves and other people. Through the visual and performing arts, analytical, critical, imaginative, and reflective thinking skills are developed.

  • Students will communicate ideas, feelings, and beliefs through the arts.
  • Students will develop and explore problem solving of the art process through visual, verbal and written analysis.
  • Students will learn about the diverse cultural and historical heritages of the arts.
  • Students will learn how to contribute to society through the aesthetic process, thereby advancing civilization.
  • Students will use the arts as a healthy conduit for self-expression and an outlet for personal creativity.
