Principal's Message

Welcome to the John F. Ryan Elementary School for the 2009-2010 academic school year! We look forward to meeting the new fifth grade students and welcoming back the returning sixth graders.

I hope your summer has been enjoyable and that your child has worked diligently on his/her summer reading. As you know the Ryan School combines the best features of an elementary school and a middle school. To refresh your understanding of our schedule and school day, let me review some critical information.

This year the first day of school is on Tuesday, September 1st. School hours are from 8.15 AM to 2.27 PM. A fleet of 15 buses, which pick up students across the entire town, will transport all 5th and 6th grade students attending the Ryan School. Students will begin the school day at 8.15 AM. Students will have a 25-minute lunch period with time to go outside in good weather. The price of lunch is presently $2.50. Applications for free/reduced lunches will be distributed the first week of school.

Please remember that a signed, dated note is required for an individual student dismissal. If your child will be absent, I ask you to please utilize our automated telephone system and call the school office (978-640-7880) with the necessary information (please spell your child’s name and give date of absence). Also, starting the last week of August, vehicular traffic will be allowed in front of the school only from 8.30 AM to 1.30 PM.

There are several new faces at the Ryan School this year. These include: Rose Curley 6th grade literature; Kathryn Deslinger 6th grade social studies; June Fagan 6th grade special education; Andrea MacMullin 6th grade literature; Meghan Davis instrumental music; Kim MacElhaney 6th grade science; and Maria McLaughlin secretary. Please join me in welcoming all of the new staff members during the first few weeks of school.

The faculty and staff have high expectations for all of the learners that walk through the halls of the John F. Ryan Elementary School. I expect all students will put forth their best effort and treat their classmates and teachers with respect. I am certain that the 2009-2010 school year will be full of success. Enjoy the last few days of summer.

Sincerely,

Kevin McIntyre
