North Street PAC

October 1st, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Welcome/Introductions:

The Co-chair Ellen Roane kicked off the meeting.  

 

Co-Chair Comments:

(1)   Playground:

·        Existing equipment (Slide) needs to be fixed.  The necessary service requests have been placed.  Remains an open issue.

·        New equipment:  Miss Kimble requested that the PAC purchase some new playground balls, jump ropes & sandbox toys.  They will be paced in a cabinet in the hallway by the Kindergarten rooms.

(2)   “PAC Goals”:

A draft copy of the N.S. PAC Goals was distributed by Sharon Pierce.  Anyone with changes/additions should submit them to Ellen Roane.

(3)   Calendar of Activities: Upcoming year’s activities were discussed. (See

     “Fundraising” below).

 

Treasurers’ update/remarks:

Ann Flynn reported:

 

Fundraising:

(1)4th Grade Pumpkin Decorating:  This event is to be launched in mid-Oct.

(2) Oct 19th – An “all school” Percussion Ensamble will be performing at two different sessions.  (One at 11am, and the other at 1pm).  Leigh Leslie will be distributing flyers via students shortly.

(4)   Burger King Night: To be held Oct 27th!  Flyers to be passed out soon.

(5)   Script Gift Cards:  To be kicked off asap!  Flyers/order forms will be going home with the students, as well as being placed out on our PAC website for online accessibility.  There will be a meeting to discuss details this Friday 10/2).

(6)   4th Grade Committee’s Calendar Raffle:  We will be selling a calendar raffle during the month of Oct, to raise funds for upcoming 4th grade activities.

(7)Shopper’s Night:  This event will be held on Thursday, Nov 12th from 6:00-8:30pm.  There will be a $2 admittance fee, door prizes, raffles, etc.  Vendors can reserve a table for $25.  Diane Morris to help Sharon Pierce run the event. Anyone else interested in volunteering, please contact Sharon Pierce.

(7)   Family Game Night:  On Friday, Nov 6th we will be holding an event where families can come, relax, and enjoy playing some unique board games.  “Game Right” games will also be for sale (we will get 50% of the sales).  There will be an admittance fee charged, and over 30 different games to play!  About 10-15 people are needed to help run this event.  We may hold a raffle during this night, and also may sell some North Street pencils/”PAW PINS” for kids’ backpacks as an additional fundraiser.  Teachers’ will have “Wish List” games on hand for anyone wishing to purchase a game as a holiday gift or classroom donation.

(8)   All during the month of November, Appleebees will be hosting Wednesday Night North Street Nights!

(9)   Nov 19th:  There will be a Book Fair held during Conference night!  More details

      to come soon.

(10) Holiday Breakfast:  On the second Saturday in December, we will be having our 

      annual Breakfast with Santa.  Mary McKenna will be helping run this event.

(11)Holiday Workshop:  Tina Pescatore will be coordinating this year’s kids holiday shopping event!  To be held the first week in December.

(12) Other possible fundraiser events discussed: Gold Party, and Progressive Coin Day.  These events are still to be determined.

(13) 4th Grade Committee Team:  Will be meeting 10/9 to discuss next steps.

(14) Beautification Committee:  We made over $600 profit from the sale of North Street Sweatshirts during our Open House Night.  The next steps might include a magazine drive to raise funds for this effort.

 

Arts & Enrichment:

·        Oct 19th will be a school-wide presentation of Percussion Enseamble.

·        Leigh Leslie is working to get “Mike the Bubble Man” for a Spring program.

·        For second grade, Michelle’s Mineagerie is being booked.

·        For Third Grade, we may acquire the services of “The Math Lady”.

·        For Kindergarten & 1st Grade, Natural Discoveries may once again be booked.

SPED PAC Updates:

(1)   Kelly Preble is SPED PAC’s Treasurer and is once more our SPED PAC representative.

(2)   The next SPED PAC meeting will be held on Oct 19th from 7-9pm at The Ryan School.

 

Upcoming Events:

·        Oct 19th – Percussion Ensamble

Open Discussion:

·        After School Arts & Enrichment programs will begin taking registrations the week of 10/5.

·        Budget Advisroy Committee update will be happening on Oct 15th.  A North Street representative is still needed!

·        Adopt-A-Classroom program is now underway.  See the PAC website for details.
