November 2008 Meeting Minutes

Submitted by: Karen Nordstrom

Welcome/Introductions:

The Co-chair Ellen Roane kicked off the meeting.

Co-Chair Comments:

(1)   Shopper’s Night 11/13:  We are advertising this event in the Tewksbury Advocate, at the Library, shops around town, and on Channel 10.   PAC members to place on “Craig’s List”,  “Freecycle” website, etc.  Volunteers needed.  Set up is at 5pm and clean up will be at 9pm.  Donations of baked goods for refreshments will be much appreciated.  There will be a door prize/raffle.

(2)   Adopt-A-Classroom:  This is a fundraising program that will assist the North Street teachers in acquiring educational tools/supplies for the students.  The PAC unanimously approved trying to launch this program at North Street.  However, it will be run separately from the PAC.  Christine Chesbrough offered to help launch the program.

(3)   Holiday Breakfast 12/13: This event will run from 8:30am-11:30am on Dec 13th.   Planning is moving ahead.  Jen Barbati and Cheryl Cahill have volunteered to do decorating for this, food is being ordered, we are obtaining a volunteer to play “Santa”, etc.   More volunteers are NEEDED!  Besides breakfast with Santa, there will be face painting, pictures w/Santa, etc.  Tickets will be $3 per attendee.

Treasurers’ update/remarks:

Ann Flynn (along with Ellen Roane) discussed at length the need for the PAC to move ahead with filing for “Non-Profit” organization status.  All Tewksbury school PACs will no longer be able to utilize the Town’s tax id.  All PACs are being required to file for non-profit recognition status to obtain their own tax id’s, and gain the ability to apply for available grants to improve the school.   The PAC approved the application fee of $750.  Our submittal deadline is 11/15.

Fundraising:

  1. Script Gift Cards:  The committee will be distributing forms via the students for gift card orders the week of 11/10.  All orders/monies will be due the following week, in order that the cards be received and distributed prior to the holiday.
  2. Simon Mall Evening of Giving:  This event will take place on Nov 23rd between 6:30-9:30pm.  Tickets cost $10, $7 of which is returned to the PAC!  Stores offer exclusive discounts, and there will be raffles/door prizes.

Team/Committee Reports:

(1)   4th Grade:  The representative for this committee was not able to make the meeting. Updates to follow next PAC meeting.

(2)   Arts & Enrichment:

a.    Tin Cup:  This school-wide event is planned for Monday 11/10.

Teachers’ Update:

Mrs. Enos is our teacher representative to the PAC and she will be spearing heading our annual “Children Helping Children” event (where North Street school works in conjunction with DSS to help children).   Monday (11/10), participating students will receive a notice regarding the age & type of gift requested.  All gifts are to be donated unwrapped by 11/17.  Our front Bulletin Board will be decorated in honor of those participating!

Principal’s Comments/Remarks:

(1)    There is a need to elect a parent representative to our school council.  School Council members meet once a month, about an hour before the monthly PAC meetings for a term of one year.  They assist in the budget review/school improvement process for our school.  Anyone interested please contact Miss King as soon as possible.
