North Street PAC

February 5, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Welcome/Introductions:

The Co-chair Ellen Roane kicked off the meeting.  

 

Co-Chair Comments:

(1)   Food Drive:  Was successful, but donations were a little “down” from prior years.

(2)   Used Book Drive:  Thanks to all.  Lots of books/videos collected.

(3)   Talent Show: Sharon Adelman is heading up this event.  This Variety show type event is to be held on April 3rd, from 6-8:30pm.   All students are invited to try out.  We’re hoping to get at least 10 acts (2-5 min each).  Volunteers are needed!

(4)   Family Reading Night/Read-A-Thon:  Usborne is running this read a thon.  Each child is being asked to obtain sponsors for their reading.  Each child’s goal is to read at least 300 minutes during this event.  If that goal is achieved, student can use 50% of sponsored money to purchase Usborne books from their wish list.  The other 50% will be divided evenly between the child’s classroom & the Library for their purchase of books.  On April 17th, an All School meeting will beheld to discuss results!

 

Treasurers’ update/remarks:

Ann Flynn reported in:

1.      Box Tops: We have received $840 so far!

2.      GoodSearch.com:  Ann discovered this website. If parents & friends register and utilize this website to perform their web searches, North Street School can earn $0.01 per search.

 

Fundraising:

1.      Meadow Farms:  $400 came in as residual checks.   

2.      Papa Gino’s Dine Out Night: We earned $224.96!

3.      Square One Arts:  Students will be making a craft during art class, and families will have an opportunity to turn it into magnets, mouse pads, etc.  This year’s theme will be “Favorite things”.  North Street makes 33% return from sales.

 

Team/Committee Reports:

(1)   4th Grade:  Photos for the yearbook are to be taken by O’Connor Studios the week of 3/9.  Committee is working to come up with a T-shirt design, D.J., booking avenue, “favorite person” voting, etc. 

(2)   Arts & Enrichment: 

a.    Mr. Magnet:  Mr. Magnet was very successful.  Teacher advisory board to review items if we do this again.  Children sent the vendor Thank You notes!

b.    Recycling:  This month North Street plans a school wide kick off program to help students understand our recycling efforts. 

c.    Arts & Enrichment After School Program:  North Street is kicking off our new program this month!  Several programs are being offered – drama, “It’s a Bug’s Life”, etc.  Hoping that this will be successful and in the future we will be able to offer additional programs.

 

Teachers’ Update:

Mrs. Enos is our teacher representative to the PAC. 

  1. Teacher Allotments: All teacher allotments for the year should be in.
  2. Supplies needed:  3.5” floppy discs and mouse pads are being requested . Please forward any/all materials to Mrs. Enos.

 

Principal’s Comments/Remarks:

(1)    Miss Kimbal mentioned that Lisa Bancroft is scheduling MCAS support classes, working with 3rd & 4th graders.  The expected tuition will be $60. 

 

 

SPED PAC Updates:

(1)   Kelly Preble is SPED PAC’s Treasurer and is once more our SPED PAC representative.

(2)   The next SPED PAC meeting is a “Basic Rights Workshop” and will take place on March 16th from 7:30-9pm at the John F. Ryan School library. 

 

 

Upcoming Events:

·        Kick off of After School Arts & Enrichment program.

·        Reach for The Stars – Read-a-Thon

·        March 13th Family reading Night.
